I know this guy. Veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis and other Cold War affairs. Has a time slot at the Vietnam Veteran Radio (VVR) station that plays songs of all types from the 1950s up to 1975, the cut-off date for the Vietnam Conflict.
Requests are typically played unlike broadcast radio stations. Requests are taken via their Web site from the front page. Click on the “Song Request” button. I met the owner/operator of VVR and a fine fellow he is with a charming wife. My friend is a DJ with a regular slot on-Web (vice on-air of corporate owned broadcast radio).
A month-long break starts soon (December to January)allowing all time with families. The station operates electronically during the break time. In January the DJs will be back with live shows and taking requests. A treat is the actual PSAs (public service announcements) from Vietnam in-country Armed Forces Radio during the Vietnam years.
VVR is a good place to hear oldies seldom heard on corporate radio and experience the differences arriving with a station operated by military veterans.
Vietnam Vet Radio is an internet only radio station dedicated to the men and women who served in the Vietnam War, their families, and friends. We are incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit veterans ministry organization. With a few exceptions all the songs played are from the Vietnam War era. We also play the authentic jingles and public service announcements that were played on AFVN (American Forces Vietnam Network) Radio.
While Vietnam Vet Radio is neither political or religious, in the normal sense of the word, it is most certainly a pro-America and pro-military radio station that acknowledges that we are a blessed people. No anti-war rhetoric or anti-war songs; there are other sites on the internet for that. Our mission is to heal, not open old wounds.
