“Like most of you, I’m a casual blogger and learned my way into blogging by watching others. And one of the things I learned early on was that a post with a photo always looked nicer than one with just text. So I looked at what other people were doing for pictures. And mostly it seemed that everyone was grabbing pics from Google Images and pasting them on their sites. Sometimes with attribution, most of the time without. And when I asked others (or looked at disclaimers on websites and Tumblrs), it seemed that everyone agreed using pics that way was okay under Fair Use standards. “
If there was real wealth to be made I assume that hordes of greedy lawyers would descend upon the Web where millions, maybe even billions of people are ripe to be sued for posting copyrighted pictures. I believe the threat is minimal but I decided to eliminate my Tumblr and Pinterest sites.
I am pondering the need for deleting some of my blog entries. They do not make me any money. Why place them on the Web? To sate a desire to share a story with others? To want to add to the historical record so that past events are not forgotten? Other reasons?
If any of my pics were used elsewhere I would be proud that somebody else thought that they were worthy of use. However, if they were used in a manner that promoted evil, such as child molesting or to lie to others in an attempt to scam wealth from them that would be different and I would try to end EVIL. Greed would never drive me to end the use of an image I captured with a camera and placed upon the Web.
I am placing this entry here to help warn the minute number of folks that visit this blog. Maybe you have wealth that can be wrenched from you. Greedy lawyers will use every method to maximize the wealth the legal system grabs and hands over to those doing the suing. If those pictures were so damn precious to them then they should never have placed them upon the Web!!!! As you see I am not a greedy person and wealth grabbing is not a major part of my personality. If a picture assists with spreading knowledge and telling the tale of life on this planet then let the pic help tell the tale.
