Old Coot Feels His Pain

The class war continues.

My best job as an adult came when I was in my early 40s.

14 months later the outsourcing began.

I was among the first 1,000 laid-off as the obs were sent overseas.

Within 3 years all the jobs were gone from a firm that had, at one time, allowed over 7,000 average working-class folks to attain that ill-defined middle-class lifestyle.

Real health insurance at an affordable price.

Several pension plans… take your pick.

Low-price stock purchasing plan.

Folks bought houses, sent kids to college, bought goods and services and pumped money into the local economy.

That era is mostly gone.

 

 

 

When I started working there in the latter part of the 1990s I knew instinctively based upon my readings and studies that it was inevitable that the jobs at that manufacturing plant would be sent overseas.

I hoped for the best but when the notice of the lay-offs arrived 14 months after being hired I was but one of many millions who have become victims of changing economic realities planet-wide but also, in part, because of the ongoing class warfare within the USA.

 

The class war continues.

Outsourcing to maximize profit that is funneled upwards into the hands of the few while those at the bottom levels of the socio-economic hierarchy suffer then suffer more.
