Pondering Coot

By obbop

If you are a misanthrope the odds are quite high that you embrace all or much of  Disgruntled Old Cootness and that the Coot might even find thee acceptable for short periods.

Hmmm…

Is this revelation an example of a dichotomy?

I must ponder the multitudinous aspects of the possibility.

This is the link to the “ark” comments referred to in the above comment:

Hmph! By definition there are only two aspect to a dichotomy. Is it not so?

  4. obbop Says:

Yes, Lokki, there is no Santa Claus I regret to say and the general tendency for most youth is that the Santa Claus concept and the type and amount of gifts given tend to rise with a family unit’s socio-economic position being higher up that pyramid often used to chart those things.

As for dichotomy, that word is akin to “bi” and “hemi” in that the reference is of two things or entities or half of something.

I suppose we could term the half-dollar a bi-coin or a hemi-coin though I doubt those labels will ever become popular with the masses.

    Regarding your question.

Though the revelation was dichotomous the macro view of said revelation can involve many ramifications.

The Coot Cranium, currently chock-full of debris and thoughts of what to imbibe for the evening meal, is having trouble concocting an example to assist the humble herd in understanding the Current Coot Thoughts ™.

This little doozy just popped into my thoughts.

Though not an actual dichotomy it is an either/or one-or-two yes/no affair close enough to a dichotomy to perhaps assist in explaining this affair.

Do I drive or walk today?

If I drive I may be involved in an accident, colliding with a van full of terrorists carrying a multi-megaton nuclear warhead. I am slightly injured while the bad dudes die and the Coot saves a few million lives.

    You’re welcome.

Or, I walk and step in front of the same van and I am flattened and the van completes its journey.

So, events led to either a good ending or a bad ending.

Yet, of those TWO possibilities, are a huge number of other results related to the original two.

Ponder the utterance of old where the movie’s narrator states that there are a million folks in the city and each has their own story to tell.

Whether that thermo-nuclear device detonates or not is an A/B affair but the end results contain a multitude of individual stories.

That didn’t help much, did it?

Whaddya’ want? A “book for the ages” spreading the inspiration that guides humanity to a Golden Era of Cootness?

Looking at the original post (should have done that from the get-go).

Okay, either embrace Disgruntled Old Cootness or not.

” a division (dichotomy) of the population into two opposed classes”

    Coots and non-Coots.

Hmmm… If the herd WAS herded into those two groups I can envision many ramifications.

As for the applicability of using “dichotomy” within the post, I believe it was appropriate BUT, only if interpreted in a certain manner.

If interpreted using a different thought process, as appropriate as the thought process allowing the use of the dichotomy word, the Coot Critter hereby and forewith proclaims that that viewpoint disallowing the “dichotomy” concept is also acceptable.

    Sheesh….

    How about asking simpler question?

    My brain hurts now.

    Owwwwwww.
