What a foolish thought. Perhaps a rambling rant the Coot can convey. Biased subjective opinions worthless beyond belief perhaps the Coot can concoct.
However, I, the semi-humble seldom-constrained-by-societal-norms Disgruntled One, in a spirit of numbed nobleness lording above the masses of bleating brainwashed buffoonish sheep-like citizenry obeying their elite class masters and the implanted indoctrination within those sheep’s feeble ill- and uneducated brainlets, will hereby babble about something that will be determined as the words flow across the screen and the longed-for lucidity within the Coot mind perhaps exposes (eeeek!) itself.

Perhaps the non-sheep within society, if one of those too-rare humans wanders onto this post-among-billions-upon-the-wide-world-of-Webdom, may be able to ascertain just what the heck the Coot is rambling about.
Onward, onward now to confront that request for this “Weekly Wisdom ™” surely deserving of that ™ thingy that is absolutely meaningless upon this bloggy thing except as a feeble attempt at proving some point that even I am unable to determine what that point may be.

Upon a message board far far away discussing the general inanity of females and the threat those naturally-bewildered creatures pose towards males, both accidentally and on purpose, the topic thread drifted away from the daffy dame topic to a recent world event with the USA, again, shaking its iron-gloved fist at a foreign country. Perhaps deservedly so but at what cost are these so many “foreign entanglements” over the decades that are so costly in blood and bucks? Entanglements expressly warned about by that George Washington chap of long ago, whose birthday is now ignored in some parts of the once-sovereign USA, replaced by La Raza-loving lads and lasses with that Cesar Chavez fellow (not a bad fellow but his “cult” is indicative of the “diversity” from so many sources that threatens the Union’s unity… a “nation divided can not stand,” scenario).
Shivering within the shanty sipping coffee as the snow descends outside, your Coot replied to that message board thread then expanded upon it here to meet the imploring request for “Weekly Wisdom.”
Commence transference of Coot Wisdom ™ of whatever the heck a Weekly Variety thereof consists of. Yo.
Less intrusion into other countries/societies/cultures and others’ lives MAY result in less anti-USA rhetoric and the ensuing masses of non-thinking sheep listening to their societal and cultural “top dogs” MAY not be so ready to strap on explosives, hijack aircraft, take up arms or other acts of aggression.
Maybe.

As I ponder ramifications of this I recall the spewing about the “peace dividend” that was supposed to enrich the USA after the Berlin Wall fell.
What “dividend”?
All the rhetoric here and there about having to keep the foreign oil flowing freely while the USA spent and spends trillions of bucks to maintain a viable military presence world-wide and keep it readily deployable and how without that oil our economy would go poof but………
well, it appears the current economic crisis MAY (I am no econ-pro) be, at least be partially, based upon the greed of a few at the top of the socio-economic pile and political correctness….. gotta’ loan a lot of bucks to those unable to pay… with that demand driving up housing costs and the ensuing profit to local and national elites.
Heck, even illegal aliens were receiving loans!!!!
Wealth transference from bottom to top…. same old song and dance. Greater, in my worthless opinion, than the wealth transference from top to bottom designed to keep the rabble sated and fending off revolutionary thoughts.
Sure, there was a rise in gas prices for awhile but I do not read about that being the sole or main reason for the current econ-problems.
Do business with other countries and/or foreign firms therein but do not impose the “American way” upon those entities and keep the interactions strictly business and as limited as possible!!!!
If OPEC or whoever wants to stop the oil or raise prices… well, that’s business!!!
Oh what an opportunity the Obama lackey, the Obama figurehead of the elites and corporate structure and those pesky special-interest groups, had with his so-called econ-recovery scheme…
Need to pump some bucks into the economy? How about declaring WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!! An internal battle. Energy independence as much as possible. Perhaps a reduction of 50 to 75 percent of energy imports as a near-term goal with a desire to attain a 100 percent level eventually?
Ten years for scientific achievements along with social/infrastructure improvements and alterations to increase energy production within the USA and to decrease the energy-amount used.
Put the brainy bunch to work!!! Oust the foreign engineers here with their visas that put competent Americans out of work and hire our own brainy folks…. They ARE out there!!
Common laborers could be hired to assist in altering houses to increase insulation and other energy-saving improvements for poorer folks, the elderly on limited incomes, etc. Pump federal funds into local economies. Put people to work whose incomes will assist local economies at a grass-roots level. Bypass the greedy out-stretched paws of the already-wealthy elites.
So many things that could be done but it appears Obama and those of his ilk want to ensure the status quo remains and the elites continue to flourish.

Nothing new regarding Korea (in that message board thread elsewhere, North Korea was mentioned).
Coot Contemplation Time ™
Out itty bitty destroyer escort was sent into the Yellow Sea back in late 1975 as a distraction and a handy target for N. Korean or ChiCom weapons .
It was some saber-rattling by the USA for something that happened on the Korean DMZ. Can’t remember what the event was and not all of those affairs make the USA news.
The rest of the fleet with the carrier and escorts was sent to the east side of N. Korea. Perhaps to respond to any attack made against our “expendable” shiplet.
Wandering in circles in the upper Yellow Sea, closing upon N. Korean territorial waters then drawing back we knew we were merely a target, begging for aggression. Oh what a feeling!!!!
(We were somewhere around the “X marks the spot” area)
After a couple days it happened…. I and another squid were standing watch in the sonar shack. Around 2 am or so local time, listening to the many noises in the water… fish farting, whales blubbering and… LO!!! “Bridge, Sonar,” “Bridge aye.” “Bridge, Sonar, high-speed hydrophone effects bearing 263. Classification possible torpedo.” “Bridge aye.”
As the other guy grabbed some headphones and plugged in to listen we turned on the in-place tape recorder as doctrine demanded.
We then commenced listening for 13 minutes as the high-pitched whine of small fast-rotating screws sliced the sea. Louder and louder was the noise reaching us while we could only determine in what direction the noise source came from, not the distance.
We could determine the underwater object was getting closer due to the increase in noise level.
Yet, despite the object getting closer, the officer in charge upon the bridge did nothing in response.
No call to battle stations. No using counter-tactics available to us. No deploying of the counter-measure device of doubtful utility. Nothing. Onward we steamed at a steady rate in a straight line.
Were we supposed to be a target for aggression so as to allow a response against N. Korea by our forces?
Was it possible that the underwater noise source was not a torpedo? Our training told us it was, there are no underwater objects that mimic an actual torpedo I can think of.
Was it possible that noise was a training torpedo minus a warhead fired by a USA submarine or perhaps a South Korean sub, used for training and to test us aboard the “target”? Perhaps BUT, it seems doubtful to me that we would allow even a training torpedo to be expended where it could be retrieved by enemy forces. The Yellow Sea wasn’t that deep where we were located making retrieval possible.
Who knows for sure? Nobody at my level of the command chain. I believe there WAS a torpedo headed for us. Finally, after those timed 13 minutes elapsed, with the noise growing constantly louder; kaput. Silence. Blessed sigh-inducing silence. Likely out of fuel that noise-making object slowed, stopped, then either settled to the ocean floor or, if it WAS a typical training torpedo, rose to the surface for retrieval.
Part of our routine for sonar events was to check with the radar guys in the adjacent room, talking distance away, to ascertain what surface vessels were nearby. Nothing close to us at that time… no retrieval ships to grab the device if it was a training torpedo. And, no surface targets within range that could have been a surfaced submarine.
Oh well. The excitement kept us late-night watch standers awake and alert.
As with other events that occurred during my two treks overseas while in Uncle Sam’s Canoe Club, while experiencing those various events I felt as if I was within one of those films shot on black/white non-colored film still prevalent on the TV during my formative Baby Boom years.
Anyway……
Let us heed George Washington and disentangle AND quit pandering politically to the elite class and try to fix the economy while increasing our energy independence.
